FOR CHILDREN IN GRADES 1 & 2

Connect with friends and nature after school! This series is designed to let kids be kids after a long day in the classroom. Children will explore the natural world around them, play outside, and discover the many critters that make nature so interesting.

Wednesdays, 4-5:00 PM:

April 4 - Searching for Spring

Go on a scavenger hunt around the Arboretum to explore nature waking up from its winter’s rest.

April 11 - Art of Nature

Gather natural materials and create your own sketchbook. Use it for other Afterschool Adventures activities!

April 18 - Creepy Crawlers

Have a buggy good time discovering the many jobs in nature of insects, worms, bugs and slugs.

April 25 - STEAM Challenge

Do an experiment in aerodynamics! Who (or what) can fly further and faster?

May 2 - Seeds & Plants

What’s blooming? See the blossoms and then dissect flowers to explore plant anatomy.

May 9 - Who's in the Pond?

Explore the ponds at Tyler and get hands-on with frogs, toads and turtles and more.

May 16 - Clouds

There are so many different types of clouds. Learn all about them and even make one of your own.

May 23 - Rocks Rock!

Igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic, oh my! Learn about these magnificent minerals by crating your own edible “rocks”. 

May 30 - Stream Safari

Turn over rocks and use dip nets to discover what fantastic aquatic critters inhabit our stream. Be prepared to get wet; wear appropriate water shoes.
