FOR ADULTS AND TEENS AGES 15-17

In the early 1900s, the American chestnut tree—once called the "redwood of the East"—was nearly wiped out by an imported fungus known as chestnut blight. Today, Tyler Arboretum, in partnership with the American Chestnut Foundation, is part of the movement to bring this iconic tree back to our forests. Our preservation orchard is home to carefully tended trees that hold the promise of resistance and renewal.

Join expert Dan O'Keefe for a guided tour of the orchard and discover the fascinating history of the chestnut, its vital role in Eastern forests, and the ongoing work to restore it for future generations. September is harvest time in the orchard—see the progress firsthand, and take home chestnut seeds to be part of the story yourself!

Please arrive by 10:15 am and go directly to the Chestnut Orchard, not Tyler's Visitor Center. Directions to the Chestnut Orchard from Tyler's main entrance: turn left onto Painter Road and travel 3/10 of a mile; the Orchard entrance will be on your right. (If you pass the fenced-in giant sequoia tree on your left, you've gone slightly too far.) A guide will be stationed at the entrance to direct you to the parking area.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED

MEMBERS (sign in for your discount!): $4.25 per adult; FREE for teens (ages 15-17)

NON-MEMBERS: $23 per adult (includes $18 admission fee); $10 per teen (ages 15-17) (includes $9 general admission fee). Stay as long as you'd like! 

GUEST PASS HOLDERS (for non-members only): $4.25 per adult guest; FREE for teen guests. Please give the Visitor Center Associate your guest passes at check-in.

A registered adult must accompany teens. The fee is for each adult and each teen.
