For Ages 4 – 6
Children and their favorite adult are invited to dig in and help tend their very own garden, located in the children’s section of the new Edible Garden. Start from seeds and see them through the growing season: planting, watering, grooming and finally harvesting produce. For the full experience, register for the bundle and see how your plants develop over the course of the entire season.
Bundle of 6 classes on the following Tuesdays from 1 – 2:00 pm:
September 10 - Planting Leaves
We will plant kale, lettuce, spinach and more to see which leaves are the heartiest—and tastiest! Sow our new crops and pick the last of the summer vegetables from the garden.
September 24 - Planting Roots
Carrots and parsnips are ready for the garden at this time of year and can last through the first chilly days of autumn. Explore these delicious root vegetables and discover what other roots we eat!
October 8 - Amazing Alliums
Garlic, shallots and onions can grow in the garden even in colder temperatures. Plant these strongly scented vegetables and learn all about the wonderful ways we can use them throughout the season.
October 22 - Waiting Through Winter
It is time to get the garden ready for winter! That means harvesting late season crops, clearing away old plants and weeds, and planting seeds that will overwinter in the soil.
November 5 - Pumpkin Picking
Winter squash come in many shapes and sizes—more than just the common orange pumpkin. Open up many different varieties to see how the insides of these giant fruits differ too.
November 19 - Harvest Celebration
We have spent a lot of time working hard in the garden so now we can celebrate all of our efforts! Play games and eat seasonal treats as we look back on the fun times we had this year.
