This event is no longer on sale.

Wednesday April 20

1:30 PM  –  3:00 PM

Come join the conversation! Jennifer Stock from the Delaware County Library System will be leading a book discussion of Grandma Gatewood’s Walk by Ben Montgomery. In 1955, Emma Gatewood, 67, became the first woman to through-hike the 2,100 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Emma focused attention that rallied support for the Appalachian Trail. After the discussion, join us for an inspirational hike to explore part of Tyler's 17 mile trails. Please wear hiking shoes.

Books will be provided for participants to pick-up at Tyler's Visitor's Center prior to the event.

Pre-registration required; FREE for everyone

The Community Read initiative is designed to motivate people to pick up a good book, to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment, and to start a conversation in our community. The Community Read is led by Longwood Gardens and partner institutions including libraries, public gardens and conservation institutions. Join us to explore the inspirational power of one person by reading Ben Montgomery’s book, Grandma Gatewood’s Walk: The inspiring story of the woman who saved the Appalachian Trail. The corresponding title for families is On Meadowview Street which tells the story of a little girl whose inspiration transforms her new neighborhood through newfound connections with nature.
