1:00 PM  –  2:00 PM

FOR ADULTS

Join us for a tour of the historic Cumberland Cemetery!

Cumberland Cemetery was founded in May 1885 when John Tyler and other community members purchased a 17-acre parcel of land at auction. They subsequently transferred ownership of the land to the Cumberland Cemetery Company for a nominal fee of $1.00. Situated next to the Middletown Quaker meeting house and adjacent to William Penn's original land grant to Thomas Minshall, Cumberland Cemetery serves as a memorial for many prominent locals, including members of the Tyler and Painter families. Join us as we explore the cemetery's history and unravel the meanings behind the epitaphs and symbols found on the grave markers of Minshall and Jacob Painter.

This tour will meet at Cumberland Cemetery, 447 N. Middletown Road, Media, PA 19063. Please park on the inner side of the U-shaped gravel drive (on the same side as the house). You will meet your tour guide at the house near Middletown Road. We will be walking on grass and gravel. Closed-toed walking shoes are recommended.
