Pink Hill Tour - Tyler's Serpentine Barren

Discover Pink Hill: a globally rare serpentine barrens! Join us for a guided hike to Delaware County’s last remaining serpentine barren. Explore its unique geology, rare plants, and fascinating history—from continental collisions to early human activity. April often brings a stunning bloom of bright pink moss phlox, the flower that gave Pink Hill its name.

  • Group leaves promptly from the Visitor Center Patio at 9:30 am. Please arrive on time.
  • Check in with your guide at the Visitor Center Patio.

Schedule:

  • 9:30 am: Moderately-paced, guided hike from Visitor Center to Pink Hill
  • 10:00–11:15 am: Expert-led tour of Pink Hill
  • 11:15–11:45 am: Return hike to the Visitor Center
  • Total time at Tyler: 9:30–11:45 am

What to Expect:

  • Walking surfaces that include pavement, grass, gravel, and rocky trails
  • Changes in grade, including short steep hills and stairs
  • Unshaded, uneven terrain at the serpentine barrens
  • Unique geological features, rare plants, and sweeping views of grassland
  • Hike is not suitable for those with limited mobility

What to Wear & Carry:

  • Hiking boots or shoes with good tread
  • Bug spray (please apply at home)
  • Sunblock
  • Water and snacks
  • Optional: Hiking poles

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED

A participating adult must accompany teens.

Members (sign in for your discount!): FREE

Non-members: $18 per adult; $15 per senior; $10 per teen (ages 15-17). The non-member fee includes admission to Tyler for the day, so feel free to stay as long as you'd like! 

GUEST PASS HOLDERS: (for non-members only): FREE. Please give your guest passes to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in, or inform them that you are accompanying a Family or higher-level member as their guest. This program is free with your guest pass admission, so feel free to stay as long as you'd like after the program!

LIBRARY PASS HOLDERS: FREE. Please present your Library Pass to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in for the program. This program is free with your library pass admission, so feel free to stay as long as you'd like after the program!
