This Ramble will explore the trails and the large variety of trees of the secluded and little-visited East Woods of Tyler Arboretum. The landscape includes a lush lowland area with three springs, enveloped in lovely ferns and mosses. An area of serpentine rock is readily observed, this being an extension of the outcropping that is Pink Hill. The East Woods of Tyler was also once a dense forest and the site of a land management project which took place in the late ’70s. Join us to see the evidence and significance of this today.
There's more to discover in Tyler’s 650 acres. Leading tours at Tyler for over 30 years, Dr. Richard Brenner will be starting a new series called ‘Richard’s Rambles.’ Come along on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 10:00 am-noon for a rambling walk through the various eco-communities at Tyler. From seasonal wonders, living fossils, meadows, watery locations, geological treasures, conservation areas, and unexpected wildlife, Richard will expertly guide you to prime areas for an experience you will remember. Expertise from others will often be on hand for a more in-depth exploration. These rambles are for those who have a love for nature, exploring, and learning. While a description of each ramble is posted in advance, we reserve the right to make last-minute changes, including adjustments for weather and trail conditions. Bring your reusable water bottle and dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes.
Please arrive by 9:45 am and go directly to the East Woods parking lot, not to Tyler's Visitor Center.
Directions from Tyler’s main entrance to the East Woods Parking lot: turn left onto Painter Road, turn left on Barren Road. You will pass Arbor Circle on your right. Shortly thereafter, someone will be at the entrance to the parking lot located at the East Woods to meet you and check you in. The tour begins here.
PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Members: FREE; Non-Members: $15 per adult, $9 per youth ages 15-17. Fee includes admission, so feel free to stay the day! All youth must be accompanied by an adult. Fee is for each adult and each youth.
