Richard's Rambles: Round Top Ramble

This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday November 18

10:00 AM  –  12:00 PM

FOR ADULTS (18+) AND YOUTH AGES 15+

This ramble will draw you to the past, 310 years ago when the Minshall family relocated to Middletown. We will start in Ridley Creek State Park and visit the remains of the original Minshall homestead called ‘Round Top’, built in 1711 by Jacob Minshall. We will be looking down at 230 million-year-old rocks, a chunk of Africa left behind from the breakup of ancient Pangea.

Please park in Ridley Creek State Park, picnic area #17 where we will meet and hike to the ruins. This is a moderately-paced hike along easily traversed but narrow trails with some small hills to climb.

There's more to discover in Tyler’s 650 acres. Leading tours at Tyler for over 30 years, Dr. Richard Brenner is leading a new series called ‘Richard’s Rambles.’ Come along on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 10:00 am-noon for a rambling walk through the various eco-communities at Tyler. From seasonal wonders, living fossils, meadows, watery locations, geological treasures, conservation areas, and unexpected wildlife, Richard will expertly guide you to prime areas for an experience you will remember. Expertise from others will often be on hand for a more in-depth exploration. These rambles are for those who have a love for nature, exploring, and learning. While a description of each ramble is posted in advance, we reserve the right to make last-minute changes, including adjustments for weather and trail conditions. Bring your reusable water bottle and dress for the weather, including sturdy shoes.
