The Minshall Trail: A Journey Worth Taking

The Minshall Trail winds 7.9 miles through forests, meadows, and rocky hillsides. Along the way, you'll discover interesting geology, peaceful corners of the Arboretum, remnants of the past, and the reward of a trail that challenges and inspires.

The path is rocky and hilly, featuring a stream crossing and several steep inclines and declines. Participants must be physically fit. This hike is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. We recommend:

• Sturdy hiking boots for confident footing

• Water and snacks to keep your energy up

• Hiking poles for extra support on hills and stream crossings

Want to take on the challenge in sections? We will start the Minshall Trail in a counter-clockwise direction, heading toward Painter Road (see Hiking Map). A second guide will be on hand to lead a somewhat shorter hike, returning to the Tyler parking lot from Valley Cottage. 

Add the Minshall Trail to your passport for the Tyler Trail Challenge: The 17 Mile Finish—hike all six trails by December 31, 2025, and you'll earn your Finisher Sticker, a spot on the digital Finisher Wall, and entry into our grand prize drawing.

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Check in at the Visitor Center, where you'll meet your guide. This moderately paced tour covers 7.9 miles, featuring changes in grade and walking surfaces, including grass, gravel, rocky trails, and stream crossings. Sturdy hiking boots with good tread, walking poles, lunch, snacks, and water are recommended.

NON-MEMBERS: $18 per person. Admission is included in your price, so feel free to stay for the day!

GUEST PASS HOLDERS:  FREE. Please submit your guest pass to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in. If you are accompanying a Family or higher-level member, please notify the Associate.
